Atlas & Essaouira

Day One Imlil Hike and Stay

Departure from Marrakech early morning 7h30am, towards the high Atlas Mountains via Tahnaouet (local market on Tuesdays), Valley Ghighaya, Moulay Brahim gorges, Asni (market on Saturdays) then between terraced fields of vegetables, fruit trees walnuts & cherries arrival to Imlil to 1740m.A main trail head with streams and paths branching out in all directions from Imlil and is famous for its fantastic range of seasonal activities and quaint mountain village charm, a welcome glass of mint tea in the village and meet your local guide prior to setting off for a 4km walk around the the 10 villages lunch at Berber family in village. Overnight in a local guest house with dinner and breakfast.

Day Two Imlil Hike and Stay

After breakfast. meeting the team guide, muleteer then start the trek between fields to climb Tizi Mzik pass at 2480m, panoramic view over Imlil valley, Azaden Valley and the high Atlas Mountains over 4000m including Toubkal 4167m, then a nice walk through juniper forest up Tamsoulet at 2100m, lunch next to the river, visit the 100m high waterfalls in the massif, walk down to Tizi Oussem village, view on Azaden valley, meeting local people, lunch at a Berber house. Then going down to Id Issa village, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields & other villages with multi mineral colours, a tea at Berber family, discovering Berber houses behind doors, then climbing tizi Oudid pass at 2200m, lunch after the pass with a view to the valley and high Atlas Mountains especially the backside of Oukiemeden Mountain (ski station), continuing down via Matat village before arriving to Aguersioual at 1650m, then the way up to Imlil, Overnight in the same Berber guest house with dinner and breakfast.

Day Three Marrakech - Essaouira

Pickup from your Berber guest house in an air-conditioned 4WD or minivan and drive to Essaouira. The old Mogador is a city that has hosted several personalities as Orson Welles, Jimy Hendrix and Cat Stevens. Learn how it was known in Roman times for producing the purple dye used in imperial togas, and hear tales of its time under Portuguese rule, when its name was ‘Mogadore.’ On route, stop to visit an an Argan Women’s Co-operative to see the women at work extracting oil from argan nuts, and then continue your journey westward. Once in Essaouira you can walk to the famous Squala português fortress dating from the eighteenth century or enjoy the fishing trawler in the harbor surrounded by characteristic typical white houses with blue decorations. Stroll along the harborside and view the Skala fortress with its wave-lashed ramparts and cannons. Visit the medina and municipal market, and explore the jeweler's quarter and a handicrafts complex as your guide explains Essaouira’s artistic heritage, overnight in a Riad in the old town. DBB.

Day Four Essaouira - Marrakech

Beach Free day to visit or spend your day in the beach... Late afternoon pickup and drive to Marrakech back to your hotel/Riad BB.
